At the Monolith is the brainchild of music and pop culture journalist Greg Trout.
Established as a conduit for criticism and exploration of the underground and the extreme it marks a separate path from Magnaphone, the magazine most associated with him.
Since 2003 Greg Trout has been covering music professionally, not only for his own magazine but for other journals such as Dagger, Drum!, Philadelphia Arts Writers, Philadelphia City Paper, Philadelphia Weekly, and the now defunct Terminal Brain Rot. His interviews include such local and international legends such as Colin Meloy, Monica McIntyre, Lydia Lunch, Tiny Vipers, Steve Wynn, Patton Oswalt, Mick Harvey, Low, Robert Forster and many, many others. In the metal and extreme realms He has spent time with such underground legends as Darrin McCloskey of Pale Divine and Rion Lypynsky of Unearthly Trance.
Trout has always had a special place in his heart for the loud, the dark and the unaccessible to the general masses. With At the Monolith he intends to bring you news of the latest, heavy bands, essays on lost classics, interviews with people making passionate, intense music and reviews of powerful events.
Welcome one and all to bands, publicists, promoters and akin individuals to submit music, alert him to shows, and submit your own thoughts on underground sounds.
